The Animation Bucharest International Film festival starts from the need to know the animated film art as an instrument of expressing the European cultural diversity and it is meant to form and promote cultural managers all over Romania.
The festival intends to capture the viewers` attention by scheduling 400 animated short films, mostly European productions. ABIFF has as its main theme the relationship minority-majority and what sets it apart from the other Romanian festivals are the productions which are mainly destined to the very young audience. The event takes place during 12 months. Starting with September 2020, before the festival, the first competitions of the project will be launched: the drawing contests designed for the young artists. There will be other contests as well, besides the drawing ones. The online component will be an ABIFF trademark from the first edition. The winners of some of these contests will be voted by the audience online, without the organizers` possibility of influencing the result in any way.
The results of these preliminary competitions will represent the start of the production of a short animated film, based on a screenplay that will be finalized by means of involving online the viewers. The film will be presented during ABIFF. The OPEN CALLS for submitting the films in the ABIFF competitions will be launched in October/ November 2020. In April 2021 the winners of the first edition of ABIFF will be announced.
ABIFF will present the selected films in other 18 cities and towns in Romania (county capitals) for three days, in April 2021.
