Transylvania International Film Festival (TIFF) is generating an economic impact amounting to EURO 7.5 million, according to a study conducted by the Business Faculty within „Babeș-Bolyai” University (UBB).

„TIFF has set new standards in relation to organising professional events and put on the city's map new locations for their unfolding, thus contributing to the cultural infrastructure development. The Festival has had a great impact on the community both through education and through the involvement of social projects,”
Tudor Giurgiu, the Festival chairman, stated.
The research study, which was conducted for 2 years (2014 and 2015 Editions), shows that the percentage of Cluj inhabitants participating to TIFF rose to 81% and 85%, the rest of the participants being tourists from other counties or from abroad. According to the same study, the tourists were mostly high-income

(beyond average) individuals, 48% of them choosing to check into hotels and boarding houses for 3 or 4 nights, at an average price of ROL 94.8 / a night. During their time in Cluj, 70% of the tourists watch at least 2 films daily, and 40% watch at least 3 films. However, they have enough time left for shopping (8% of the guests) or for going out with friends (57,9%) – which means that 66% of the tourists coming to Cluj for the Festival represent an income source for the town's restaurants and shops. They spend an average of RON 57.6 /per person for a meal, to which the film ticket and the transportation costs are added.
The study also measured the participants' perceptions related to the Festival's impact on the local economy and cultural zone. Thus, most of the respondents considered that TIFF attracted investments to the city and encouraged local people to engage in new economic activities. Furthermore, over 50% of

respondents stated that TIFF is a cultural symbol for Cluj, and an overwhelming proportion of respondents - 90% - declared they were favourably and very favourably impressed with the Festival, following their participation.
The research study conducted by the Business Faculty within UBB was carried out with logistic and technical support made available by UPC Romania and Samsung Romania, on a representative sample of over 1,000 persons, of which 828 attendants to TIFF having permanent residence in Cluj-Napoca during the last 6 months before the Festival, including students, and 178 attendants coming from other towns or from abroad. The study was carried out by a team made up of members of the Hospitality Services Department within the Business Faculty, under the coordination of PhD Associate Professor Adina Negrusa and of PhD Associate Professor Valentin Toader.
