Sanda Toma and Ion Marinescu – The Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2018 Gopo Gala


     During the 12th edition of the Gopo Awards Gala that will take place at the Big Hall of the “I.L.Caragiale” National Theatre in Bucharest, the actress Sanda Toma and the cinematographer Ion Marinescu will be presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
     The gala will be broadcast live on TVR2 and streamed live on Cinepub.ro and premiilegopo.ro, starting with 20:00.
     Born in Bucharest (October 27, 1934), Sanda Toma graduated the “I.L.Caragiale Theatre Institute, the class of professor Aura Buzescu and of professor Nicolae Băltățeanu (for the final years).
     Though in her teen age years, she was dreaming of becoming a geologist and for a few weeks she attended the classes of the Faculty of Agricultural Machinery, Sanda Toma graduated the “I.L.Caragiale Theatre Institute. Her first film experience came in 1960, playing the part of Lucietta in The Boors, the film that was shot based on Carlo Goldoni`s play. her true debut on the big screen happened two years later, with The Famous 6702/Celebrul 702, directed by Mihai Iacob. One exceptional part which she played and that stuck with the film lovers was the one in Letiția Popa`s film, The Dowry/Zestrea.
     In theatre, Sanda Toma has had a rich activity, playing in more theatres: he National Theatre in Craiova, the Comedy Theatre in Bucharest and the National Theatre in Bucharest.
     For her impressive career, the actress Sanda Toma will be paid homage to at the 2018 edition of the Gopo Awards Gala,. The Lifetime Achievement Award will be offered to her by Apa Nova Bucharest.
     The organizers of the Gopo Awards Gala will give another Lifetime Achievement Award to the cinematographer Ion Marinescu.
Ion Marinescu was born in 1948 (in Ghergani, Dâmbovița) and was part of the 1970 class of the “I.L.CAragiale” Theatre Institute, alongside Mircea VeroiuDan PițaStere GuleaDinu Tănase and Nicolae Mărgineanu. He is considered one of the most prolific cinematographers in Romania, having worked on more than 90 productions, collaborating with famous Romanian and foreign directors: Mircea Daneliuc (Microphone Test/Proba de microfon), Mircea Moldovan (Winter of the Ducklings/Iarna bobocilorPintea), Elisabeta Bostan (SaltimbanciiMa-maPromises/Promisiuni), Mircea Mureșan (Ion, the Lust for the Land/the Lust for Love/Ion, blestemul pământului, blestemul iubirii), Dinu Cocea (Oak Tree, Top Emergency/ Stejar – extremă urgenţă), Radu Gabrea(Red Gloves/Mănuşi roşii), Raúl Ruiz (The Lost DomainA Place Among The Living) or Gérard Cuq (Trggered/ Țăcăniții).
     At the beginning of the 1990s, Ion Marinescu founded the film production company Atlantis Film. As an executive or associate producer, he produced more Romanian and French films.
     The 2018 Gopo Awards Gala – the 12th edition is organized by the Romanian Film Promotion Association, with the support of the Romanian Film Centre, of Babel Communications and of the Ministry of Culture and National Identity.
