Sion Sono Retrospective at TIFF 2016

Transylvania International Film Festival (27 May – 5 June) is to dedicated this year an ample retrospective to cult Indie director Sion Sono, the wonder child of independent Japanese cinema, through the screening of 10 of his most provocative films.
With a career spreading over three decades and having 46 features under his belt, Sion Sono is one of the most prolific contemporary directors. The filmmaker was present in the section No Limits at TIFF 2012, with his film Himizu.
“Sion Sono is the hero of the most explosive retrospective of TIFF history. Being an iconoclast, provocative and impossibly inventive, this enfant terrible of contemporary Japanese cinema changes genres with amazing ease, and draws the rug from under your feet exactly when you think you finally got the hang of it. His films do not resemble each other, though he makes them one after the other, and they breath grace, horror and excess through all of their pores. Few people spoke of love as he did in his masterpiece Love Exposure. A totally free spirit, Sion Sono feels at home at TIFF 15,” Mihai Chirilov, TIFF artistic director explained.
