In collaboration with the long-term partner, the famous section of the Cannes Film Festival, Quinzaine des Réalisateurs, the 2018 edition of BIEFF brings the legendary Bruno Dumont`s latest feature film to Bucharest. He is one of the most provoking directors of the last two decades, he is twice the winner of the Grand Prix of the jury at Cannes, for
L'Humanité and
Flandres. After
P'tit Quinquin and
Ma Loute,
that could be recently watched in the Romanian cinemas,
Dumont surprises again with
Jeannette, l'enfance de Jeanne d'Arc, a unconventional musical that radically rewrites Joan of Arc`s story.
According to the prestigious publication
Cinema Scope, “pitched somewhere between Monty Python and Headbangers Ball,
Jeannette, the Childhood of Joan of Arc marks an unexpected synthesis of the French filmmaker`s many disparate

interests and obsessions. […] Bruno Dumont is responsible for some of the most exhilarating alive cinema in the world right now.”
France, 1425. In the midst of the Hundred Years` War, the young Jeannette, at the still tender age of 8, tells a friend that she can no longer bear to see the suffering caused by the English. A nun tries to reason the girl, but Jeannette is ready to take up arms for the salvation of souls and the liberation of the Kingdom of France. Carried by her faith, the little girl will become Joan of Arc. All these stories are boldly told by Bruno Dumont through music and dance, in his most eccentric cinema approach so far. The result is a period musical, combined with techno-metal music that cannot be label in any way.
After the film`s international premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, the Romanian one will take place in the opening of the 2018 edition of BIEFF, on March 26, 2018, from 20:00, at the Peasant Museum Cinema, with the support of the French Institute in Bucharest and of the film distributor, Luxbox.
The second screening will be on Thursday, March 29, from 18:30, at the Elvire Popesco Cinema.
