Fresh Perspectives returns this year with a film selection that breaks down the reality surrounding us and then put it back in a more environment-friendly way. The documentary features included in the program are:
Urban Tides (directed by Simone Eleveld, 2015, the Netherlands),
Poverty, Inc. (directed by Michael Matheson Miller, 2015, USA),
March of the White Elephants (directed by Craig Tanner, 2015, Brazil/USA/South Africa) and
Digital Food (directed by Martijn Kieft, 2015, the Netherlands). The competition also includes one of the documentaries part of the
Focus Pelicam 2016 on the fashion industry:
Out of Fashion (directed by Jaak Kilmi, Lennart Labarenz, 2015, Estonia).
This year's short documentary competition is made of a selection of nine films, from eight countries, from France to Brazil. Among them, there is also the only Romanian documentary in the Pelicam 2016competition –
Păstrătorii de Rost/ Keepers of Tradition (directed by Ana Maria Pîrvan and Răzvan Sima) –, which will be internationally premiered.
The shorts' competition jury is made up of: Heinz Hermanns (Interfilm Shorts Festival, Berlin), Luiza Vasiliu (journalist, coordinator of Scena9) and Séverine Lenglet (filmmaker).
Moreover, Pelicam will dedicate to children the first two days of festival, 16 and 17 June. On Thursday, 16 June, the festival will open with screenings for children, and also with a surprise for them that is to come all the way from Belgium.
Le Jouet Musical / The Music Box is an original fanfare, made up of five young musicians who use toy instruments as toy trumpets, mini-piano, mini-guitars, bicycle noises, and also cow, duck and other animal noises to revisit jazz, folk or even rock melodies.
With the support of the people from the Astronomic Oservatory “Amiral Vasile Urseanu” of Bucharest, on Friday morning, children over 7 will be given a virtual tour of the sky visible from Terra. The presentation will be held on Friday, 17 June, at Jean Bart Theatre in Tulcea.
