France President bans all festivals until mid-July

Emmanuel Macron said the lockdown will be extended to May 11, in a TV interview on Monday. But he mentioned that the festivals and events that bring large crowds of people will not be allowed to take place before mid-July, in best-case

scenario. His decision puts Cannes Film Festival on ice – this year`s edition should have been postponed until late June/ early July.
The Cannes organizers previously said that the festival would need to receive the green light from public authorities in order to postpone the 73 rd edition until late June/ early July. Deferring the festival later in July or August would be very complicated because Cannes is a popular holiday destination and sees tourism taking off on July 4; on the other hand the autumn festival season is already packed with other festivals – Venice, Toronto and San Sebastian. The Cannes organizers have yet to comment on Macron`s decision.
