The 3rd edition of the American Independent Film Festival announced today its complete programme. Many films awarded or selected at prestigious film festivals such as Sundance, Toronto, Cannes, Venice or Telluride can be watched in premiere in Bucharest, from April 12 to 18, 2019, at Cinema PRO and the Peasant Museum Cinema in Bucharest and at the Ateneu Cinema in Iași.

Acknowledged in the film world for his diverse, original and appealing filmography, the director Jacuqes Audiard will be present for the opening of the 3rd edition of the American Independent Film Festival for the premiere of his latest film,
The Sisters Brothers – on Friday, April 12, at Cinema PRO, from 20:00. Starting with today, the complete programme of the screenings is available on the website of the festival and the tickets can be purchased on Eventbook.ro.
The western
The Sisters Brothers, featuring John C. Reilly, Joaquin Phoenix, Jake Gyllenhaal, Riz Ahmed and Rutger Hauer, was partially shot in Romania, in the summer of 2017 – after Audiard became aware of the shooting potential of our country, which he discovered on the occasion of his first visit to Romania, when he was invited to the
Les Films de Cannes a Bucarest Festival, with his film
Dheepan (Palme d`Or in 2015).
The Sisters Brothers became one of the foreign films with the biggest budget that have been shot in Romania, only for settings, costumes and horses - over 5 million Euros. Audiard will also attend the second screening of the film on Saturday, April 13, from 16:30, at the Peasant Museum Cinema and the Q&A session that will follow.
For
The Sisters Brothers, Audiard and his co-screenwriter Thomas Bidegain adapted the novel written by Patrick de Witt, a hit on the North-American book market (translated in Romania by Polirom). John C.Reilly bought the screening rights and he offered them to Audiard, because he has always been a huge, unconditional fan of him.
The costumes were created by the Italian-American costume designer Milena Canonero, who won 4 Oscar awards for Best Costumes for
Chariots of Fire (H. Hudson),
Barry Lindon (S. Kubrick),
Marie Antoinette (S.Coppola) and
Grand Budapest Hotel (W. Anderson). The world premiere of
The Sisters Brothers took place at the Venice Film Festival last year, where it received the Silver Lion Award for the Best Director.
The film will be distributed in Romania by Voodoo films, starting with April 19, 2019, in 45 cinemas in 25 cities and towns.
