InfiniTIFF: Interactive VR films and workshops at TIFF 2017

TIFF (Cluj-Napoca, 2 – 11 June 2017) is inaugurating this year the InfiniTIFF programme, set up in the former Fashion House in Cluj-Napoca.
InfiniTIFF is a platform dedicated to the new forms of audio-visual storytelling, presenting the latest VR and interactive cinema novelties. The space is supported by Samsung through the Gear VR technology and proposes the audience a captivating film viewing and interacting experience.
From 3 to 10 June, the first edition of InfiniTIFF will present an ample selection of VR films in the dedicated space, an interactive films programme in movie theatres, during which the public may intervene during the action, Doom Room, an installation carrying one through tactile and visual experiences, screenings of clips from the Youtube era, as well as workshops for professionals.
The curator of the InfiniTIFF section is Erwin M. Schmidt, having extended experience in production, international sales and festival organising. Up to 2015, he was the 3D project producer for Wim Wenders, at Neue Road Movies.
Within this program, the viewers will have the opportunity to watch the first Romanian 360° film. Escape (directed Millo Simulov) brings seven young people in the middle of an extreme reality show. The cast stars the actors: Florin Piersic Jr.Paul IpatePavel Ulici, Michaela Prosan, Anghel DamianAlex Călin, Oana Nedelcu. At TIFF, director Millo Simulov will deliver a presentation on the technical challenges involved by the production of such a film.
Furthermore, the professionals interested in VR may take part to the InfiniTIFF Workshop powered by Samsung. After the registration process, 16 selected participants will work in 4-person teams and will produce original VR content over four days. They will be guided by specialists with international experience: Mads Damsbo (producer) and Balder Brüsch (creative technologist with Makropol, VR studio of Copenhagen) and Fred Baus (Realab, VR software studio of Luxemburg). The deadline for registration is 23 May.
Another workshop will be VR Canvas: Tilt Brush, set up in cooperation with CINETic – the International Centre on Innovative-Creative Technologies' Research and Education, within UNATC. Six selected artists will be given a day to make a VR-illustrated concept on a given theme, with the aid of Tilt Brush, an artistic project launched by Google that allows 3D drawing in virtual reality. The residency will take place between 4 - 6 June, and it will include a Tilt Brush training and testing period, the results of the workshop being to be presented to the audience between 7 - 10 June. The deadline for registration is 23 May.
