From October 4 to 6,
Sighetu Marmației hosts the Maramureș International Film Festival 2019 (MMIFF2019).

On October 5, the animated film
Son of the Sea (directed by Abbas Jalali Yekta) opened the Best Short Film competition. Son of the Sea received the City of Annecy Award in the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. It is the touching story of a father who fantasizes about a son that happily lives his life drawn onto the halls of his house.
On the same day, the audience is invited to discover an original way of talking about the beauty and the frailty of the

planet earth, by using the images captured by the Himawari 8 satellite. The film
A Year Along the Geostationary Orbit, directed by Felix Dierich (Germany), received the Vimeo Staff Pick Award during the Annecy IAFF.
The animated film
Kingdom, directed by Tan Wei Keong (Singapore) and presented at the Berlinale, combines various animation techniques and succeeds in building an entire universe with a minimum number of repetitive gestures.
Movements, directed by Dahee Jeong (South Korea) is 10 minutes long and it was presented at Cannes, in the Quinzaine des Realisateurs program. It is in 10 minutes that a baobab tree in Africa grows 0.008 mm, a greyhound can run 12 km and the Earth travels around the Sun on a distance of 18 000 Km.
In Love with Cinema, directed by Askar Nurakun Uulu (Kyrgyzstan) tells us about the fascination for the cinema which can be found all over the world, though not all the cinemas have huge screens and buckets of popcorn. The very young character of the film must be inventive in order to be able to get to see the local cinema from the inside.
The screenings take place in the Cultural Centre Hall of Sighetu Marmației (Libertății Square, no.24 A) starting with 17:00.
