“Women on the Run” from the Czech Republic won the Bucharest Best Comedy Film competition 2020


     The Bucharest Best Comedy Film Festival took place from December 1 to 10 on the ComedyEst TV channel and it was also available on the Digi Online platform, in the app from the Google Play store, App sSTore, Huawei AppGallery and
www.DigiOnline.ro .
     The film that won the Bucharest Best Comedy Film 2020 competition is Women on the Run (2019, the Czech Republic), written and directed by Martin Horský, featuring Zlata Adamovská, Tereza Kostková, Veronika Khek Kubařová, Jenovéfa Boková, Ondřej Vetchý, Vladimír Polívka, Martin Hofmann, Samuel Gyertyák, Michaela Sodomková, David Kraus, Bolek Polívka. It is a Czech romantic comedy which tells the story, in a very tender and funny way, of three girls ready to be married and a mother worth adoring! Women on the Run became the most successful Czech directorial debut, after having been watched by more than one million people in the first 42 days. It was also the highest-grossing Czech film (more than 200 million CZK) and it received the Audience Award at Czech Lions 2020. 
     The competition of the Bucharest Best Comedy Film Festival included ten titles and the winner film was chosen by a jury made by Irina Margareta Nistor – president of the jury, Maia MorgensternGeorge MihăițăAdrian PăduraruHorea Murgu, Laurean Gherman, Manuela HărăborValeriu AndriuțăAndrei Zincă, Adrian Titieni.
     The second edition of the Bucharest Best Comedy Film Festival took place from December 1 to 10, in exceptional conditions, marking a premiere in the world of the film festivals. In the context of this pandemic and of the restricted access of the audience in cinemas, the Bucharest Best Comedy Film Festival became the first film festival that could be watched on a TV channel – the Comedy Est one. 
     The winning film of the competition was announced during the Closing Gala, on the ComedyEst TV channel, on December 11, 2020.
     The Bucharest Best Comedy Film festival brought a tour of the world in 10 different  film perspectives: When Mom Is Away, directed by Alessandro Genovesi (2019, Italy), The Columnist, directed by Ivo van Aart (2019, Netherlands), Raoul Taburin's Secret, directed by - Pierre Godeau (2018, France), Extra Ordinary, written and directed by Mike Ahern and Enda Loughman (2019, Ireland), Women on the Run, written and directed by Martin Horský (2019, Czech Republic), 100 Things, directed by Florian David Fitz (2019, Germany), The Big Love Picture, directed by Sebastián Mega Díaz (2019, Argentina), A Piece of My Heart, directed by Edward af Sillén (2019, Sweden), Est – Dittatura Last Minute, written and directed by Antonio Pisu (2020, Italy), El Gran Leon, directed by Ricardo Maldonado (2018, Peru).
