The History National Museum of Romania (MNIR), in partnership with the Bucharest Jewish Film Festival, announces the screening of the film ”Jewish Itineraries in Romania”, on Tuesday, December 17, 2019, starting with 18:00, at the MNIR in Calea Victoriei, no.12.
Jewish Itineraries in Romania is a documentary which captures a small part of the traces left by the Jewish communities from Romania. From Săpânța to Ștefănești, from Bacău to Siret, the film creative team tried to show the atmosphere from the visited cemeteries and synagogues. Hard to track and left outside the tourist circuit of many localities in Romania, the Jewish cemeteries are in an advance process of degradation, though they represent a priceless heritage. In the few synagogues that are still functional in Romania, only a handful of people still celebrate the old traditions.
For 40 minutes, the viewer may admire unique tomb stones or synagogues painted in an impressive manner. Botoșani, București, Câmpulung Moldovenesc, Fălticeni, Săpânța, Ștefănești, Suceava, Dorohoi, Piatra Neamț, Sighetu Marmației, Simleu Silvaniei, Buhuși, Târgu Neamț, Sighet, Siret, Rădăuți and Bacău are the 17 localities which, by the traces they kept, they revealed a flourishing world, a Jewish world that was used to call the Romanian territory home.
