Cinema reopening dates around the world


     Reopening the cinemas represents one of the first steps that many countries are willing to take in order to emerge from the economical blockage due to the coronavirus pandemic. The dates that are given below may suffer changes, depending on the infection rate in every country.
     Austria – July 1. The access will be limited to 250 people per room and increasing to 500 from August 1.
     Bosnia & Herzegovina – May 14
     Bulgaria – May 11
     China - unknown. After all cinemas had been closed since January 24, 500 cinemas reopened on the weekend March 20-22. However, they were ordered to close again on March 28.
     Cyprus – July 14. Open-air cinemas will reopen between June 9 and July 13.
     Croatia - May 1. Cinemas have been allowed to reopen from May 18, but those located in shopping malls will have to wait until June 15.
     South Korea – April 29
     Denmark - June 8
     Switzerland - June 8
     Estonia – July 1. A maximum of 1000 people for outdoor events and 500 for indoor events, at 50% maximum capacity.
     Finland - June 1. Indoor gatherings limited to 500 people.
     France – not before June 2
     Germany – May 15-June. German reopening is taking place on a state level. 
     Greece - June 1 (outdoor cinemas). All businesses, including cinemas, will be able to open from early June.
     Hong Kong – May 8
     Iceland – May 4. Cinemas were permitted to reopen with a 50 person per screen limit on May 4.
     Ireland - August 10
     Italy - June 15. 200 people per room
     Kosovo – June 1
     Latvia – May 12. 25 people per room
     Lithuania – May 31. 30 people per room
     Great Britain – July 4 (provisional date)
     Norway - May 7. 50 people per room. It will be increased to 200 people from June 15 if cases continue to drop.
     Netherlands - June 1
     Poland - June 1. 50 people per room.
     Portugal - June 1
     Czech Republic - May 11. Gatherings are limited to up 100 people.
     Romania – not before June 15
     Slovakia – May 20
     Slovenia – May 1
     Spain – May 25 – June 8. Reopening the cinemas will be approved on a province level.
     USA – April 27 (Georgia), May 1 (Texas). Cinemas are reopening in the US on a state-by-state basis.
     Sweden – Cinemas have not been instructed to close at any stage during the pandemic.
     Ukraine – June 10
