The autumn program of the Cinematheque of the Romanian Cultural Institute in London opens on Tuesday, September 25, 2018, with the screening of
Dogs / Câini (directed by
Bogdan Mirică). The film received the FIPRESCI Award in the Un Certain Regard section of the 2016 Cannes Film Festival and also other awards at festivals, such as TIFF and Sarajevo Film Festival.

The film stars
Dragoş Bucur,
Vlad Ivanov and
Gheorghe Visu.
The thriller
Dogs is a “moral and emotional labyrinth”, in the words of the director Bogdan Mirică. “Actually, by making
Dogs, I tried to move near that type of thriller genre from the `60s-`70s – which focuses more on waiting, on anticipation, rather than on the action. I find this approach more interesting and it gives me more satisfaction in the end.” The action takes place in an area from the Danube part of the Romanian-Ukrainian border, where the groups of smugglers make the law.
The Romanian Cinematheque is one of the permanent programmes of ICR London, which intends to promote Romanian films of all time.
