Preview “Licu, a Romanian story” today, at One World Romania 2018


     On Friday, March 23, despite the weather warnings, the One World Romania Festival continues with the screening of 11 documentaries; 8 of their filmmakers will also attend the traditional Q&As organized after each film. Today the last film from the section for the high school students will also be screened at the Eforie Cinema, from 10:00, In Praise of Nothing.
From 12:00 we get to meet three film directors at ARCUB; their films were screened on Thursday evening - Shevaun Mizrahi (Distant Constellation), Daisy Asquith (Queerama) and Jessica Gorter (The Red Soul).
     On Friday, from 14:00, ARCUB (Sala Arcelor) holds a debate on the topic of same-sex couples legislation. The debate will start from the analysis of the Coman-Hamilton case referred to the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) and on the legal details presented in the film Queerama, included in the section “The Politics of Sex”. The participants are Daisy Asquith (the director of the documentary Queerama), Romanița Iordache (ACCEPT member and anti-discrimination expert representing Romania in the National Experts Network of the EU) and Iustina Ionescu (Human Rights lawyer in the Coman-Hamilton case and ACCEPT Association, General Inspectorate for Immigration and the Ministry of Internal Affairs)
     On Friday, from 16:30 to 21:30, Cinema Elvire Popesco scheduled all the three films in the category “1968: 50 years after”: Assault to Heaven (the editing film made by Francesco Munzi), Czech Student Uprisings, which presents the Prague spring from inside and In the Intense Now, from 21:30. The documentary starts from the amateur film shot by the director João Moreira Salles` mother during a visit to China in 1968
     On Friday evening, from 20:30, the Romanian preview of the documentary Licu, a Romanian Story/ Licu, o poveste românească will take place at the Eforie Cinema. The film was recently awarded at the DOK lepizig festival. The screening will be attended by the director Ana Dumitrescu, the sound designer Jonathan Boissay and the protagonist Liviu „Licu” Canțer.
     On Friday evening two films of the section “On Slippery Slope” will be screened. Girls Don`t Fly is scheduled at ARCUB (Big Hall), from 19:30. After the screening, the director Monika Grassl will attend the Q&A.
     The documentary Return of a President – After the Coup in Madagascar will be screened at 21:00, at the Peasant Museum Cinema. The film tells the story of Marc Ravalomanana, the former president of Madagascar, exiled in South Africa, after he was deposed from power by a coup.
