One World Romania Association Launches the DVD Sahia Vintage III: Children

On Wednesday, March 1st, starting 19.00h, the association One World Romania will launch at the Carturesti Verona bookstore the 3rd DVD from the SAHIA VINTAGE series.

At the event there will be screened two of the docs included on the DVD: Adolescența / Adolescence (directed by Florica Holban, 1965) and  Pe malul Ozanei / On the Banks of Ozana (directed by Copel Moscu, 1984). The screenings will be followed by debates over a cup of tea offered by the bookstore, moderated by Maria Iordănescu, Iulian Tănase, Adina Brădeanu, Alexandru Solomon and former members of the Sahia Film Studio.
The 3rd DVD of the series SAHIA VINTAGE: Children adds 10 docs to the collection, focused around some of the childhood and adolescence aspects encountered in Romania between 1957-1986. What was life like for the children that witnessed Romanian communism? Can we discover complex profiles, children that look upon life in sheer innocence, that grow up under the eye of the camera and question the adult’s world and rules? Is the protagonist child more than a political subject caught in one of the formative institutions of the epoch whose consequences are still in effect today? How do we remember our childhood’s experiences lived in those years and how much can we identify in the filmed documents? Here are some of the themes tackled by the docs included on the DVD - subjects to be discussed also after the above-mentioned screening.
The docs included on the nr 3 DVD are:  Să zâmbească toți copiii / Let All the Children Smile (directed by Márta Mészáros, 1957), Cei mici despre lumea mare / The Children on the World of the Grown-ups (directed by Gabriel Barta, 1960), Școala de la Meri / The School from the Meri Village (directed by Jean Petrovici, 1964), A cui e vina? / Who Is to Blame? (directed by Florica Holban, 1965), Adolescența / Adolescence (directed by Florica si Paul Holban, 1970), Craiova văzută din car / Craiova Seen From The Cart (directed by Titus Mesaroș, 1964), Ședință cu părinții / Meeting with Parents (directed by Paula si Doru Segall, 1980), Abecedarul / The ABC (directed by Paula si Doru Segall, 1983), Pe malul Ozanei / On the Banks of Ozana (directed by Copel Moscu, 1984), Absolvenții / The Graduates (Paula și Doru Segall, 1986).
The SAHIA VINTAGE series is a successful essay to unravel the Studio’s production and institutional culture. Joining some of the classical titles of the Romanian docs, each DVD includes less known or completely forgotten productions of the studio, accompanied by an introductory brochure with notes and contextual explanations.
The DVD is already on display at the Carturesti Verona bookstore. One World Romania festival will take place in March so the first 10 buyers of the DVD, between Feb 22 -March 1st, will get a subscription granting free access to all films and events during the festival (March 13 to 19).
