Graduate of IDHEC-Institut des Hautes Etudes Cinematographiques in Paris. In 1980 he emigrates to France. In the 80ies he works as an editor and assistant director, mainly for Marco Ferreri. President of the jury-Angers First Film Festival, in 2006.
Trivia
Belongs to a family of Jewish Romanians from Bucharest. His father, Mordechai Buchman, changed his name into Ion Mihaileanu after escaping a nazi concentration camp during WW2.

Radu Mihaileanu establishes his production company Oi Oi Oi Productions in France, where he lives.
