Graduate of the “Dimitrie Cantemir” College (1967) and of the “I. L. Caragiale” Academy for Theatre and Motion Picture Arts (1971), class of Professor Constantin Moruzan assisted by
Mihai Mereuta and Lidia Ionescu, acting Dpt.. He started acting since childhood at the Municipal Theatre in Bucharest, at the “C. Nottara” Theatre, on radio etc. Makes his debut in film with
Răscoala (Blazing Winter), directed by Mircea Muresan, (Palme d’Or for Debut in Cannes-1966). An actor at the State Theatre in Targu Muresh, the “C. Tanase” Theatre, The “L. S. Bulandra” Theatre, the National Theatre and “Ion Creanga” Theatre, all in Bucharest. Graduate of the post University courses for Stage Direction (1986). An academic at the Academy he graduated from, since 1982. Dean of the Theatre Faculty of the Academy (1990-1997, 2001-2008), rector of the Academy for Theatre and Motion Picture Arts (2008-2012). Artistic manager of the National Theatre in Bucharest (1997-2001).
