Film Critics Association 2015 Award for Best Film Journalism

“Toni Erdmann”, the film co-produced by Ada Solomon, goes home with the FIPRESCI Award from Cannes

The German-Romanian co-production Toni Erdmann (directed by Maren Ade) was awarded the FIPRESCI Award for Best Film in the Official Competition of the Cannes Film Festival.
Shot almost entirely in Romania in the summer of 2014, the feature was co-produced by Ada Solomon through Hi Film Productions, and the cast also includes Romanian actors: Vlad Ivanov, Ingrid Bisu, Alexandru Papadopol and Victoria Cociaș.
Toni Erdmann tells the story of Winfried who sees very rarely his daughter, Ines, who is very caught up in her job. The music teacher left suddenly without students decides to pay her a surprise visit. The decision poses problems because Ines, a serious career woman, is working on an important project as corporatist strategist in Bucharest. The geographical change does not help the two of them to get along better. Winfried, always the joker, likes to annoy his daughter with pranks that are a little off. His little jests about her life marked by routine, long conferences, hotel bars and performance reports are even worse. Father and daughter reach an impasse, and Winfried accepts to return home to Germany. Here, the glamorous „Toni Erdmann” makes an entrance: Winfried's sweet-talking alter-ego. Disguised in an embarrassing suit, a weird wig and an even weirder denture, Toni storms Ines professional life, pretending to be her manager's life-coaching trainer. Under Toni's mask, Winfried is more daring and lacking self-restraint, Ines is able to deal with him. The harder they collide, the closer they get. Amidst all this madness, Ines starts to realise that her eccentric father might deserve, after all, a place in her life.
