The Script Contest #4: July 27 – August 11


     After the postponement caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the 4th edition of the competition-residence The Script Contest resumes its schedule – the next stages take place from July 27 to August 11. The one-on-one meetings with the 
members of the jury will take place from July 27 to 31 and the screenwriting residency from the Cobor biodiversity Farm will take place from August 3 to 8. The pitch of the final projects will be held on August 10. This year the only people attending the event will be the 9 finalists and the members of the jury, under the strict following of the safety measures imposed by the Ministry of Health.
     Because of the schedule changes, two of the members of the jury are unable to join us. In this situation, Bogdan Mirică (screenwriter and director) and Roxana Szel (editor) were joined by Cristinei Haneș (director) to form the new TSC #4 jury.
     Bogdan Mirică wrote and directed the short film Bora Bora in 2011, which received the Best European Short Film Award at the Premiers Plans Festival, Angers(France) and the Best Romanian Short Film at TIFF). Shortly after, invited by HBO Europe he wrote and directed the TV series Shadows / Umbre, which was widely appreciated both in Romania and in over 20 foreign countries. In 2016 he wrote and directed Dogs / Câini, his feature film debut (FIPRESCI Prize at the Un Certain Regard Cannes competition, 2016; the Best Foreign Film given by the French Syndicate of the Film Critics; nominated for the European Discovery of
the Year, the European Film Academy). Bogdan is currently preparing to start the production of his second feature film, the thriller Boss.
     Roxana Szel is a film editor and a university lecturer at the ”I.L.Caragiale” Film and Theatre National University, the Multimedia department, Film Editing & Sound section. She edited 5 feature films, 3 documentaries and a few short films: the graduation short film of the film director Corneliu Porumboiu, Călătorie la oraș – which received the 2 nd prize of the Cinéfondation section in 2004 at the Cannes Film Festival. Roxana was nominated for the Gopo Best Editing Award for:
Police Adjective / Polițist adjectiv and Dogs Câini and received the UCIN award for Best Editing, for Dogs / Câini.
     During the residency the 9 finalists will have a schedule made of sessions dedicated to writing the screenplay, feedback round tables with the other participants and individual consulting sessions on the screenplay with one of the three special guests of the edition: Andreea Borțun (film director, screenwriter), Alexandru Baciu (screenwriter and script doctor) and Ionuț Mareș (journalist, film critic, festival programmer). 
     Last, but not least, before choosing the winner and giving the award, the finalists will go through a pitch session, where they will present the projects in front of the three jury members. The award is of600 EUR and the production of the film. The award in money will be offered only to those screenwriters who don`t want to take on the director role as well.
