Sieranevada, the latest feature by director Cristi Puiu, was presented in the opening of the Romanian Film Night at ANONIMUL, on Tuesday, 9 August.
The screening was followed by a Q&A session with director
Cristi Puiu, actresses
Dana Dogaru and
Ana Ciontea and producer
Anca Puiu.
As Cristi Puiu confessed, the film's idea was triggered by an event that happened at his father's memorial. “There are a couple of stories that are true and that I used in the film. The story told in the car by Lary (
Mimi Brănescu) is the lie that my brother had told my father.”
“I was and I still am very happy to be part of the story written and made by Cristi Puiu,” Ana Ciontea said. Producer Anca Puiu made reference to the film's release in theatres and the
difficulty to distribute a feature lasting almost 3 hours, to which Cristi Puiu added: “The fact that I make long films is first of all a problem for myself. I would like my film to circulate, but I follow what I feel during the making of a film, so the duration it is what it is and I stop when I need to stop.”
Sieranevada will be released in Romanian theatres on 9 September.
The Romanian Film Night was carried on with the shorts
Ninel (directed by Constantin Popescu) and
Bones for Otto (directed by
Matei Lucaci-Grunberg) – screened with screenwriter
Lia Bugnar and producer
Anghel Damian in attendance – and with the full-length feature
Miracolul din Tekir/The Miracle of Tekir (directed by
Ruxandra Zenide), the crew being represented by actress
Dorotheea Petre.
ANONIMUL 13 is taking place between 8-14 August, in Sfântu Gheorghe, the Danube Delta.
