The Participants of the 5th Edition of the Pustnik Residence


     The 5th edition of the Pustnik international screenwriting residence which will take place from September 2 to 9, 2019 in the Cultural Harbor Cetate selected its 8 participants, out of a total number of 119 submissions, from 44 countries.
     The 8 finalists selected by the residence curators Andreea Borțun and Bryn Chainey come from 6 different countries: Ori Aharon (Israel/Romania) – OSHER, Phyllis Grae Grande (Philippines) – Everybody Leaves, Tess Martin (USA) – Tracing RitaAlexandru Mavrodineanu (Romania) - A Serious Man, Kerstin Neuwirth (Austria) – ABITANTI, Jayisha Patel (UK) – When Ash Falls, Diana Voinea (Romania) – Chronicle of a Disappearance, Jack Wake-Walker (UK) - Scarlett123.
     For 9 days, the finalists will develop their first or second feature film screenplay, by the Danube shore and they will take part in feedback meetings with local and international professionals. The latest names that are confirmed are the producers Marie Dubas (Deuxième Ligne Films – Franța) and Len Rowles (Humdinger Films/ Protagonist – UK).
     Marie Dubas has been a producer since 2008, when she started producing short films, working for different companies. She is a EAVE 2013 graduate and in 2009 she took part in the TorinoFilmLab script&pitch as a script editor trainee. In 2014 she started her production company Deuxieme Ligne Films in Normandia, France, which co-produced films such as The Wound(John Trengove / Sundance 2016, Berlinale Panorama 2017), God Exists, Her Name Is Petrunija (Teona Mitveska, the Jury Prize at Berlinale 2019).
     Len Rowles is the founder of the production company Humdinger Films, which has in its portfolio short films that received Oscar or BAFTA nominations. She is part of the Protagonist Pictures team, a well-known production and distribution company in Great Britain, with numerous box office hits.
     The participants will also receive guidance from the Syrian director Soudade Kadaan, whose first feature film The Day I Lost My Shadow won the Lion of the Future Award for the best debut at the 2018 Venice Film Festival, from Bianca Oana, the oroducer of the Golden Bear winner Touch Me Not and from Laurence Coriat, the screenwriter of the films signed by Michael Winterbottom, WonderlandOne Summer in Genoa.
