The Romanian Film Centenary continues in 2020 as well, with a new event in Cluj-Napoca, on the Romanian Principalities Unification Day. “Dorel Vișan – Portrait of an Artist. A lifetime dedicated to Beauty” will take place at the Florin Piersic Cinema in
Cluj-Napoca and the guests are
Dorel Vișan and
Irina-Margareta Nistor. This celebration will bring
Jacob / Iacob, one of the actor`s favorite films, on the big screen.
The event will take place on January 24, 2020 at 18:00 and the access is free, based on an
online reservation.
Jacob, directed by
Mircea Daneliuc, tells the story of a miner from Transilvania, who is wrongfully suspected of having stolen some gold. As a punishment, Jacob is transferred to another mine, which is farther away from home. The effort is exhausting, the way home seems endless. For Christmas, in order to shorten the time to get to his family, he secretly sneaks inside the mine cable car. But the sound of the wheels suddenly stops: for two days, for the Holidays, the mine turns off the electricity. Jacob remains suspended 200 meters above the abyss.
Jacob was released in 1988, after professional break of the director because of the Communist regime. The starting point of the film is Geo Bogza`s short story “The Death of Jacob Onisia”.
