The documentary
The Naïve Treasure/Comoara Naivă, directed by
Copel Moscu, will be released on April 13, 2018, in the cinemas of 12 cities: București, Botoșani, Bacău, Iași, Piatra Neamț, Oradea, Sibiu, Baia Mare, Craiova, Pitești, Râmnicu Vâlcea and Brăila.
The Naïve Treasure tells the story of Ioan Maric, a famous character among the naïve artists of Romania, who at the age of 70 decides to apply to the Art University in Iași, as a student of the section Art Pedagogy. And this is the moment when the community of the naïve art creators starts denying his quality of a naïve artist. “
What would you say about somebody who at the age of 70 wants to become an arts student? His entire life, the painter Ion Maric built a magical world, full of humor and sarcasm, with images in which we find ourselves together with the artist. I am sure that the viewer will understand that the story is timeless and the modest and hardworking artist smiles shyly at us from the last row, knowing that we won`t get upset that he paints us like this.” (Copel Moscu)
The release event will take place on Friday, April 13, in the presence of the director, at the Peasant Museum
Cinema (Monetăriei street, no.3), starting with 19:00. The premiere will be preceded by the special screening of the short documentary
A Day Will Come/Vine o zi, made by Copel Moscu in 1985, which was forbidden in the Romanian cinemas in the Ceaușescu years.
Copel Moscu directed more than 50 documentaries, many of them received awards at national and international film festivals, he is a professor at the “I.L.Caragiale” Theatre and Film University and at the Arts University in Bucharest and he is the director of two international festivals – Cinepolitica (started in 2012) and BIEFF Experimental Film Festival (started in 2010).
The Naïve Treasure is produced by SC Gheorghiță SRL and distributed by the Culture and Image Association. The film was made with the support of the Romanian Film Centre.
