”Viktoria”, the Bulgarian-Romanian co-production, directed by Maya Vitkova, in cinemas

After more screenings and awards received in festivals in Romania, Bulgaria or Germany, the feature film written and directed by Maya Vitkova finally has its premiere in our cinemas as well. Viktoria is co-produced by Viktoria Films, the director`s production company and by Anca Puiu for Mandragora.
Maya Vitkova`s feature film debut, which is dedicated to her mother, tells the story of three generations of women, in the historic context of the communism, of the riots that took place in 1989 and of the post-communist times. The destinies of the three main female characters are influenced by the times they live in, but also by the relationship they have with their own mothers. Being both poetical and tough, the film has a very personal approach of Bulgaria`s history.
The inserts of archive footage alternates with a modern symbolism, where the milk and the blood are the symbols for maternity, rebellion and liberation. Irmena Chichikova plays the main part in the story; next to her there are two young actresses – Daria and Kalina Vitkova, who are the director`s nieces. Maya can`t be accused of “nepotism”, simply because the two teenagers are very good for the parts they play and because they have really good acting skills.

Viktoria is now playing in the Romanian cinemas.
