Film Critics Association 2015 Award for Best Film Journalism

The 6th edition of the Bucharest International Dance Film Festival chose its winners

On Sunday evening (September 6, 2020) the Bucharest International Dance Film Festival 2020 chose its winners, after four days of competitions, special screenings, workshops and conferences with renown guests from the film industry and
performance areas.
The jury of this edition was made of the artist Farid Fairuz (RO), the producer Patrice Nezan (FR) – audio-visual specialist produced many films selected in prestigious festivals and the choreographer Chrysanthi Badeka (GR) – dancer, filmmakers, editor, video-dance professor and project manager at mAPs – migrating Artists Project in Greece.
In the international competition where 21 short films were selected out of 10 countries, the award for the Best Film (1,000 Euro), offered by Conceptual Lab by Theo Nissim was given to Navigation (directed by Marlene Millar, cinematographer - Sandy Silva). The motivation of the jury: “the film succeeds in transmitting a strong
message about humanity, which reflects in the way the bodies, sound, camera and space are used. It is underlined, with generosity, the way in which different generations evolve the ones near the others and the different ways of living together and in the meantime, they find their own voice.”
In the same competition, the jury also offered a special mention to the film Divided We Scroll (directed by Klaas Diersmann, cinematographer - Pepa Ubera) for the
strong cinematic language and the unique choreography in tune with the actual social habits which succeeds in building a condensed critic of the modern world.
Out of the seven Romanian films selected in the national competition, the Best Romanian Film title and a 500 Euro award offered by ADFR – the Romanian Film
Promotion Association – were given to Call of Pink (RO, directed by Denisa Anastasiu, Maria-Luiza Dimulescu and Cătălin Rugină). According to the jury, the
film was awarded for “the mix of languages and for its being able to introduce the gaming process in a dance film. The short film has a fresh approach of the formalism, but it is extremely careful with the techniques and it has a clear story.”
The jury also offered a special mention in the national competition, to the film inHabited…The Attic (director - Smaranda Gabudeanu, cinematography - Smaranda Gabudeanu and Svitlana Pashko) which succeeds in creating an intimate and personal world creating connections between visual, poetry and symbolic lands.
The musical competition didn`t give any award. In exchange, the jury decided to give a Special Award (500 Euros, offered by Tangaj Dance) to Canning Town (directed by Fabiola Santana and Will Dickie) for the way in which “the film reflects the theme of the festival, creating a strong atmosphere that makes a dystopian world in which nobody can find his/her own place.”
The festival ended on Sunday, September 6, with the screening of the Conceptual Lab by Theo Nissim, of the documentary film The Euphoria of Being, directed by Réka Szabó (HU).
The 6th edition of the Bucharest International Dance Film Festival took place from September 3 to 6 in Bucharest and it included open-air screenings at Elvire Popesco Cinema, the Peasant Museum Cinema and Mercato Kultur, a dance film workshop held by the artist Chrysanthi Badeka, a masterclass held by Maria Tânjală (FilmChain) and two online conferences with the artist and philosopher Jassem Hindi and with the artist pavleheidler.
