The 2017 Edition of the Bucharest International Film Festival is presenting two competition programmes – international feature film and Romanian shorts, as well as other parallel sections such as Focus Korea, or special screenings.

The 6 feature films that made the competition are international productions from countries such as France, Senegal, Japan, Argentina, Brazil and Russia.
The selection for the international feature film competition was made by Sylvain Auzou and includes six films:
Before We Vanish (Japan, Kiyoshi Kurosawa),
Balloons (Argentina, Mariano Gonzalez),
Closeness (Russia, directed by Kantemir Balagov),
Gabriel and the Mountain (Brazil-France, directed by Fellipe Barbosa),
Strange Birds (France, directed by Elise Girard) and
Wulu (France-Senegal, directed by Daouda Coulibaly)
All 6 films in the competition may be viewed in premiere and in rerun at Cinema Elvira Popescu and at the Farmer Museum Cinema.
BIFF 2017 shorts competition is screening eight Romanian shorts, scheduled in two series on Thursday, 29 June, from 19 and Saturday, 1 July, from 19.30 at the Farmer Museum Cinema, and in rerun on Sunday, 2 July, from 15.30.
To the series of Romanian shorts screenings, two feature films are added:
Dublu / Double (directed by Catrinel Dănăiață) and
Ana, mon amour (directed by
Călin Peter Netzer).
