The 8th Edition of the most important shorts Festival in Western Romania will take place this year between 6-9 October, at Cinema Timiș and at Hall 2 of the National Theatre in Timișoara.

For 4 days, Timișoara-based viewers will have the opportunity to see the latest and most appreciated shorts divided into 7 sections, 4 of them being competition ones: an international competition, a national one, another one dedicated to experimental films (Videorama) and the shorts competition for children films (Timikids). The great prize of the Festival is sponsored by the Romanian Cultural Institute and amounts to EUR 3,500.
Outside the competition, the viewers may see shorts brought to Romania by partner festivals: School Visit: EICTV Cuba, Festival Visit: Short Waves Poland and Focus on Portugal (Portuguese shorts introduced by Carlos Ramos from Indie Lisboa).
Like it is the case every year, Timishort will open with a preview screening of a Romanian feature film. The long awaited for thriller
The Man Who Was Thursday, a Hungary-Romania co-production, starring
Ana Ularu, will be screened for the first time at Timishort.
Director Balazs Juszt will be present in Timișoara, being part of the jur4y of the international shorts competition. At 17, Juszt translated “Harper Book of Quotations” into Hungarian and was an intern with the American Congress, where he wrote speeches for Tom Lantos, member of the United States Parliament at the time. The autobiography he wrote about his experiences with the Congress landed him the position as main screenwriter for a comedy series when he was only 18. Balasz graduated the “Royal Holloway” College of the University of London, afterwards acquiring a master in visual arts at the Los Angeles University (UCLA), under the guidance of actress Cathy Schulman, an Oscar winner.
The 8th Edition of Timishort is organised by the Romanian Association of Independent Film (ARFI) of Timișoara, with the support of the Town Hall and the Local Council of Timișoara, and of the National Filmmaking Centre.
