Trivia

  • The film 4 luni, 3 săpămâniși 2 zile (4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days) ranks 4thin the ”Top 10 Best Romanian Movies of All Time”, published in 2008 and ranked by 40 film reviewers.
  • 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days is part of a larger project - Amintiri din epoca de aur (Memories from the Golden Era) – a subjective history of communism in Romania told through urban legends. The project aims at talking about the above-mentioned period without direct reference to communism, but through various stories focusing upon personal choices made in a time of unfortunate events, which people had to live as if they were normal.
Cristian Mungiu about the film:
„The educational side matters a great deal to me. It took me a long time to understand what I did not understand then: we used to help our friends to get rid of this problem without being caught, ignoring the moral side of such a thing. When I became a parent, I felt I had to talk about it in cinema language. (…) The ”comrades”, the ”activists”, and the ”Party” are absent from this film, because I tried to avoid the clichés about communism. It is not even a film about abortion. But it is, implicitly, a film about many other issues”

Actresses abou their characters:
Laura Vasiliu: „My character has that particular dose of irresponsibility specific to her age, and that was the first big misfortune to happen to her. She used to rely on others' support. She is an extremely regular person. She is a victim of the society, not of what happened to her. I do not feel sorry for her”.
Anamaria Marinca: „My character, Otilia, is part of a generation I admire with all my heart – young people who dreamed in 1989 that they ”will die and be set free””.
