The press conference for the 8th Edition of Romanian Film Nights Festival was held yesterday, 19 April 2017, at “I.L. Caragiale” National Theatre of Bucharest.
The Festival is to take place between 10-14 May 2017, in Iași. The selection was made by
Cristian Mungiu,
together with Irina-Margareta Nistor, and one of this year's important programmes is the
retrospective dedicated to the above-mentioned director, who is celebrating 10 years since taking home the Palm d'Or Award for the film
4 luni, 3 săptămâni şi 2 zile / 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days.
The conference was attended by the Festival's director, Andrei Giurgia, together with a part of the Festival's guests: Irina-Margareta Nistor (cultural ambassador of the festival), Andrei Apreotesei (manager of Iași Athenaeum), Alexandru Giboi (general manager Agerpres) and actors
Adrian Titieni,
Manuela Hărăbor,
Tania Popa,
Ileana Popovici,
Diana Cavallioti and
Emanuel Pârvu.
About this year's edition, Andrei Giurgia stated: “The festival has included sections towards which we were guided by Cristian Mungiu: Documentary, Best Romanian Films, New Romanian Cinema, Romanian Film Days Caravan. The most important thing is that we will meet again in Iași, in May, when the Film Land Rises – Cinefilia, will be full of endeared Romanian actors and directors, well-known and much appreciated, who must meet with the youth and whom we all must value”.
A significant piece of information came from Andrei Apreotesei, manager of Iași Athenaeum, that is to host the Festival: “In Iași, we will set up the first state-owned movie theatre, through an investment amounting to EUR 100,000, which we are already making efforts to obtain. During the festival, we will have this system in trial mode, and the inauguration will be mde in July”.
As was the case last year, Agerpres National Press Agency will hold a special exhibition within the festival, dedicated to Romanian film and to director Cristian Mungiu.
