Corneliu Porumboiu is shooting “Gomera”


     The film director Corneliu Porumboiu is back on set, shooting a new feature film -  Gomera.
     The film tells the story of Cristi, a police officer, who gets to the island of La Gomera, in Spain, in order to learn the “El Silbo” language, a form of whistling, which is specific to that area. His mission is to free Zsolt, a controversial businessman who is arrested in Bucharest.
     Gomera features Vlad Ivanov playing the main part, Catrinel Menghia (Marlon), Rodica Lazăr and Sabin Tambrea.
     The shootings started on February, 18 and they will be over by the end of April, taking place in Bucharest and on the La Gomera island in Spain. It is the first production signed by the renowned director, which is shot outside Romania as well.
     The film is written and directed by Corneliu porumboiu, the cinematography is signed by
Tudor Mircea, Simona Pădurețu is the art director, Dana Păpăruz is the costume designer and Arantxa Etcheverria Porumboiu is in charge of the artistic direction.
     “The film focuses on a possible use of the ancestral language, El Silbo, in a world where the communication became more and more controlled, with a direct conflict between verbal and non-verbal.” Corneliu Porumboiu said. “A few years ago I watched a documentary on El Silbo. This fascinating language that was almost extinct, then rediscovered and used again on the La Gomera island inspired me and motivated me to write this story”, the director added.
     Gomera is a 42 KM FILM production in coproduction with Les Films du Worso (France), Komplizen Film (Germany) and Arte Grand Accord. The producer is Marcela Ursu, and the executive producer is Patricia Poienaru. The o-producers are Sylvie Pialat, Benoît Quainon, Janine Jackowski, Jonas Dornbach and Maren Ade. The international sales agent is MK2 Films.
     The feature film is made with the support of the National Film Centre and Eurimages and will be released in the Romanian cinemas in 2019.
