The event is organised by the Embassy of Ireland in Romania, with the support of the Irish Film Institute, Culture Ireland and Arts Council, in partnership with the Romanian Cultural Institute, the French Institute in Bucharest and Clorofilm.
The opening will be attended by actor
George Piștereanu, the protagonist of the film
You’re Ugly Too (2015), directed by Mark Noonan, who will take part to a Q&A session, hosted by film critic Irina-Margareta Nistor.
Will is released from prison on exceptional parole in order to take care of Stacey, his niece, who lost her mother. Their attempt to set up a family meets all sorts of obstacles. Stacey is no longer admitted to the neighbourhood school because of her narcolepsy, a disease she has just found out she has. Will tries hard not to break the parole conditions and fails in his attempt to be a father figure for Stacey. Together, they must find a solution for their future.
The screening of the feature film
You’re Ugly Too will be preceded by the screening of the short „Love is a Sting” (2015), directed by Vincent Gallagher.
On the second festival day, the comedy
Sing Street (2015, directed by John Carney) will be screened, as well as the short
Stutterer UK/Ireland (2015, directed by Benjamin Cleary), an Oscar-winning film.
Sing Street takes us back to the Dublin of the ‘80s, at a time when economic recession takes Conor out of the comfort of his private school and throws him into a fight for survival in the city's public school, where kids are tough and teachers even tougher.
The screenings will start at 20:00, and admission will be ticket-based.
All films have Romanian subtitles.
