On February 5, 2020, another important member of the Romanian filmmakers community,
Zeno Bogdănescu (n.1955), left us. One of the main representatives of the “Generation of the 80`s” of our animated films, he graduated the “Ion Mincu”
Architecture Institute in Bucharest and the post-university Course for animated film direction, at UNATC.
Zeno Bogdănescu made his debut, alongside his appreciated generation fellows
Radu Igazsag,
Olimpiu Bandalac and Nagy Lajos, with the film
Caligrafie (1983). The national and international awards it received confirmed the surprising changes at the “Animafilm” Studio, started with
Zoltan Szilágyi`s debut with
Nodul gordian (1979).
Zeno Bogdănescu`s filmography enforced the fame of this group of young artists with films made in different techniques, from the usual
animation cel (
Încurcă lume) to the animated graphics on paper (
Casa), from pixilation (
Trepte), and cut-out (
Memorabila incursiune) and to the sand animation (
Phoenix).
The filmmaker`s favorite theme seems to be the journey in the art universe – architecture (
Casa), ceramics (
Baladă), theatre(
Trepte) or music (in the series called
Universul muzicii, for which he worked together with Radu Igazsag).
Starting with 1994, he dedicates himself to architecture exclusively, as an artist and a professor. He was the rector of the “Ion Mincu”University of Architecture. In January this year, he received the Doctor Honoris Causa title of the University of Oradea.
The burial ceremony will take place on Saturday, February 8, at 11:30, at the church of the Bagdasar Arseni Hospital. May God rest his soul in peace!
