Three parallel sections of the Cannes IFF, Quinzaine des Réalisateurs, La Semaine de la Critique and ACID cancelled their 2020 editions. The common decision comes two days after Emmanuel Macron, the French president declared that all
the festivals and events that gather large crowds of people will be banned until mid-July.
“The health crisis that we all deal with at the present moment makes it impossible to anticipate the course of events” the statement says. Nevertheless, “each section
consults with the Cannes FF in order to find the best way to continue supporting the films included in this year`s selection.”
In the meantime, the organizers of the Cannes Film Festival stated on Tuesday that they would not be able to organize this year`s edition in June, but that they would search for new options.
