This year Timishort, the most important short film festival in the west of Romania, celebrates ten years of bringing the latest and most relevant short films of the moment on the big screen. For five years (from October 3 to 7), the Timișoara people will have the chance to see over 70 short films, organized in 8 sections - five of them are competition sections: an international one, a national one, a
competition dedicated to the experimental films (Videorama), an animated one and the competition dedicated to kids (Timikids).
The venues chosen to host the screenings will add to the cosmopolite film experience: Hall 2 of the Timișoara National Theatre, House of Arts, Capitol Hall of the Timișoara Philharmonics, Union Square, Saint George Square. The Timishort 2018 Jury is the one that will decide the winners of the feature films, short films, animation and Videorama and is made of: Wafa'a Halawi (director of the Lebanese Film Festival Beirut), Dalia Castell (documentary director, Israel), Milja Mikkola (Curator of the Midnight FF Finland), Vladimir Blazevski (film director from Macedonia).
The official opening of the festival will take place on Wednesday, October 3, at the 2nd Hall of the Timișoara National Theatre. Timishort will open with a black comedy from Macedonia,
The Year of the Monkey, directed by Vladimir Blaževski. It is a “subtle” political satire, about a strange friendship between a lonely monkey and a zoo guardian, who lives in a world that it`s upside down, in transition, as seen by a chimpanzee which succeeds in escaping.
Like every year, Timishort prepared parties and alternative events for the Timișoara viewers: this year`s edition will also enjoy a special act with Silent Strike, on October 6, at the Capitol Hall.
Timishort is organized by the Independent Film Romanian Association (ARFI) in Timișoara, with the support of the Timișoara City Hall and Council, of the Timiș County Council and of the Romanian Film Center.
