Over 2,200 viewers took part to the events set up by the
Romanian Film Festival. “One Eye Laughing, One Eye Crying”, from Seattle, Washington, SUA, was held between 18-20 November, 2016.
At its thirds edition this year, the festival was organised by the American-Romanian Cultural Society (ARCS) of Seattle, in partnership with the Romanian Cultural Institute of New York, and with the Department for Policies for the Relation with Romanians Everywhere within the Ministry of External Affairs.
The programme developed over the three days of festival included seven Romanian productions:

Câini/Dogs (directed by
Bogdan Mirică),
Nunta mută/Silent Wedding (directed by
Horațiu Mălăele),
Strada Speranței/Hope Street (directed by Ștefan & Alexandru Buzea,
Nicolae Radu),
Dincolo de calea ferată/By the Rails (directed by
Cătălin Mitulescu),
Funeralii fericite/Happy Funerals (directed by Horațiu Mălăele)
, which all enjoyed the enthusiastic appreciation of the viewers of all ages. Each screening benefitted from an introduction and was followed by a Q&A session.
The Romanian Film Festival in Seattle is set up under the generic title One Eye Laughing, One Eye Crying, and to this title another significant one to the film selection thematic is added each year: “Reconciling identities in contemporary România” (2014), “Stories about Resistance” (2015) and “On Origins” (2016), the film presented exploring the theme of family, cultural, religious, ethnic and national belonging.
