Despite the canceling of this year`s edition, the Cannes International Film Festival has announced the Official Selection of the 73 rd edition, comprising 56 films to be awarded the Festival`s stamp of approval for their release in cinemas and
screenings at other festivals.
Some of the films included in this line-up are signed by directors who are already well-established in the festival circuit: The French Dispatch (directed by Wes Anderson), The Summer of '85 (directed by François Ozon), True Mothers (directed by Naomi Kawase), Drunk (directed by Thomas Vinterberg) and also two feature films signed by Steve McQueen, Mangrove and Lovers Rock. The list nominates other 15 debut films. The selection committee had to choose from
2067 films that came from 147 countries.
The films were not grouped in the usual sections of the Official Selection.
Thierry Frémaux mentioned that 2020 celebrates the Federico Fellini centenary.
