Rediscovery of Sahia Film documents’ archive

Last week, on 12 July, the representatives of the work groups dealing with the revitalising project of the National Film Archives, set up by the Ministry of Culture, discovered Sahia Film's archive, thought as lost, in the basement of one of the buildings owned by Sahia Film S.A., respectively the one located at 33 Jean-Louis Calderon Street.
Most likely, the archive was stored here early in the '00s, in improper humid conditions. Of what was established at a first glance, the archive contains the administrative documents of Sahia during 1950-1990, which provide significant data on the Studio's working system during the Socialist economy. The documents stored here are production files of documentary films, scripts and cuts, film books, cinematography production plans, funding system and wage data, as well as other relevant papers on Sahia's international relations with similar studios in France, UK or Federal Germany.
According to the post of the Minister of Culture, Corina Șuteu, on her public Facebook page, “experts with the Romanian National Library will shortly prepare a report with direct technical intervention recommendations. Afterwards, the Ministry of Culture undertakes to initiate all required procedures for salvaging the documents and storing them in proper conditions, with a view to make them accessible to researchers.”
