An adaptation of the homonymous short story written by Ioan Groșan, the film
Kino Caravan / Caravana cinematografică directed by
Titus Muntean, will be screened on Thursday, February 28, from 19:00, at the National Museum of the Romanian Literature (MNLR).
The screening will be followed by a Q&A attended by Ioan Groşan (writer, the author of the short story Kino Caravan and the film cinematographer Vivi Drăgan Vasile.. The discussion will be moderated by Cecilia Ştefănescu (writer and director).
The first discussion about the film version of Ioan Groșan`s book took place between him and Titus Muntean in the `90s: “Together we reached the conclusion that my vision on the screenplay is not bad. In other words, Ioan trusted me to give me a free hand” the director said in 2008, when the film was still in the pre-production stage. From the first time when he read the book, Titus Muntean felt the film potential of the text: “Yes, maybe this was the book that made me say the quickest
<good to become a script> And the more I was reading, the more I could see clearly the world of the short story.” (Liternet, 2008)
Screened in premiere at TIFF in 2019 and released in the cinemas in 2010,
Kino Caravan tells the story of the young party activist Tavi (
Dorian Boguţă), who arrives in a village in Transylvania, in the `60s, to raise the awareness of the citizens in regard to the new occurring Communist realities. It is the first important mission that Tavi receives and he wants to have as great results as possible; it`s just that the rain doesn`t stop falling and the lethargy of the villagers keep sabotaging his plans.
