The Romanian Cultural Institute of New York (ICRNY) is setting up “Brâncuși: the Visionary”, a special event dedicated to Romanian sculptor Constantin Brâncuși, to be held on 17 February 2017, at 19.00, in the Auditorium Hall of ICR New York.
This event will also host the screening of the documentary film
Brâncuși - L'ensemble sculptural de Târgu Jiu en Roumanie (2012, 15 min., coordinator: Doina Lemny, photography: Cristian Tamaș, editing: Marius Robu, sound track: George Enescu – “Sonata no. 3”, for violin: George Enescu, piano: Dinu Lipatti). The film is presenting the sculptural ensemble by Brâncuși in Târgu Jiu / “Calea Eroilor” (Heroes' Path), made up of the “Table of Silence”, the “Gate of the Kiss” and the “Infinity Column”, to which the “Alley of Chairs” is added, all disposed on a symbolic axis, oriented from West to East, over a length of 1275 m. The ensemble was conceived as a homage to Romanian heroes fallen during the First World War, and Brâncuși received the order for the sculpture from the “Gorj Women League”, run by Arethia Tătărescu, wife of Gheorghe Tătărescu, Prime Minister at the time.
