Transilvania International Film Festival, initiated in Cluj-Napoca in 2002, is expanding for the first time in the Republic of Moldova. The first edition of TIFF Chișinău will take place between 6 - 9 October, 2016, at Cinema Odeon, bringing a selection of the latest Romanian films, together with several of the most appreciated productions screened in Cluj this spring.
The event's special guests – Romanian directors and actors – will talk with the audience and will deliver cinema lessons.
“TIFF, the biggest cinema event in Romania, has constantly involved filmmakers from Moldova in various educational projects, workshops or debates on cinema co-productions. Along the years, we invited to Cluj young filmmakers as well as reputed representatives of Republic of Moldova's cinema. Now is the moment when TIFF, being all grown up, may be savoured by the audience beyond the Prut River Prut as well. In time, we hope to create there the same emulation and the same interest for the event as in Cluj, Sibiu, Bucharest or Târgu Mureș,”
Tudor Giurgiu, Chairman of the Festival, stated.
TIFF Chișinău intends to become a traditional annual event in the Republic of Moldova, bringing to the audience the latest and most important productions released and winner of awards at festivals, as well as box office successes, like a vital engine for supporting and promoting local cinema and a trainer for young generations.
At the first edition of TIFF Chișinău, between 6-9 October, at Cinema Odeon, about 20 films will be screened – fiction feature-lengths and shorts, and documentaries, most of them in premiere in the Republic of Moldova. Some of them will be screened with their makers in attendance. The full programme is soon to be announced.
