The 2016 Gopo Awards Gala: the Grand Hall of the National Theatre in Bucharest, red carpet, famous people wearing fancy clothes, photos and live broadcasting on TVR2. The host was the actor Alexandru Bogdan, who not only introduced the awards, but also  created ironical fireworks or small smoke bombs. Together with three fellow actors, Alex composed and sang „the introductive songs” for Aferim!, Back Home or Bucharest NonStop.
As it was expected,  Aferim! swept off the Gopo awards for almost all the categories: Best Feature – producer Ada Solomon, Best Screenplay – Florin Lăzărescu, Radu Jude , Best Director – Radu Jude, Best Actor in a leading role – Teodor Corban, Best Actor in a supporting role – Alexandru Dabija, Best Actress in a supporting role – Mihaela Sîrbu, Best Cinematography –Marius Panduru, Best Editing – Cătălin Cristuțiu, Best Production Design – Augustina Stanciu, Best Costumes – Dana Păpăruz, Best Make-up & Hair, Best Distribuitor – MicroFilm – Cătălin Anchidin and Ilinca Belciu. Teodor Corban thanked the horses Azimir and Jamiro, that he had as partners in the film and ended his speech by saying that, in his opinion, acting-wise he was better in One Floor Below.

The musician told us about the spectacular evolution of the Romanian film, about his connections with the Romanian filmmakers, about the paradox of a country which has such international results, but lacks cinema theatres for its own films.
The Gopo Award for Best Short Film went to Andrei Crețulescu, for Ramona, and the one for Best Short-length Documentary went to Izabela Țenț, for Chat with Alice, produced by UNATC. The Gopo Award for Best Feature Length Documentary was won by Oana Giurgiu, for Aliyah DaDa, which also awarded at the 2015 Docuart  Film Festival and at the Indie IPIFF.
The winners of the Gopo Honorary Awards for their entire career were  Florin Piersic and Constantin Drăgănescu. Another Special Award was given to Paul Fister, who is a stuntman. At the end of the gala, Oana Pellea confessed that she felt that such an event where the entire film industry gathered, should have been honored with their presence by the awarded artists.
