Over 70 filmmakers invited at the 2018 One World Romania


     The 11th edition of the One World International Human Rights and Documentary Festival brings over 70 filmmakers, protagonists and specialists in the topics that are focused on by the selection of the festival, from March, 16 until 25, 2018 in Bucharest. They will attend the film screenings and debates organized over the course of the 10 festival days, in the 8 locations.
     Daily, from March, 19 until 25, OWR organizes a meeting between the festival guests, opened to the public, where they will discuss the films and the main subjects that the festival is focusing on this year.
     Mila Turajlić brings to One World Romania The Other Side of Everything, the winner of the Grand Prize at the most recent edition of the International Documentary Film Festival in Amsterdam (IDFA) – one of the most prestigious in the area. Since 2005, Mila Turajlić is the organizer of the Magnificent 7 Festival of European Documentary Films in Belgrade. She is the founder of DokSerbia, the association of Serbian filmmakers and she teaches at the Archidoc and the Balkan Documentary Center.
     Maxim Pozdorovnik is another director coming to One World Romania for the first time, even though a previous film of his was present at the 2015 edition of the festival - The Notorious Mr. Bout. In 2013, Pozdorovnik was awarded the Jury Prize in Sundance for his film Pussy Riot: A Punk Prayer and this year, at the same festival, he received the Best Editing Award for Our New President, the film that will be screened at the 2018 OWR.
     You might have met Vitaly Mansky at One World Romania through his documentary Under the Sun, but this year, you will see him in flesh after the screenings of Close Relations. Vitaly Mansky graduated in 1989 from the VGIK Cinematography Institute and became one of the most highly appreciated directors and producers of the contemporary Russian documentary scene.
     For almost 35 years, Pamela Yates, one of the first activist documentary filmmakers in the USA, has been documenting the resistance of the Mayans in Guatemala against the colonizing forces, who tried to exterminate them in many ways. She comes to One World Romania for the first time with her documentary 500 Years.
     Boris Mitić is an extremely creative and unconventional director, while multi-awarded by many documentary film festivals, at the same time. At the OWR 11 he will present his film In Praise of Nothing, on March 17 and 18. After the screening on the 18th, from 11:30, at Cinema Elvire Popesco, he will hold a masterclass.
     Ana Dumitrescu, the director of the documentary Licu. A Romanian Story/Licu, o poveste românească, winner of the Grand Prize of the Leipzig DOK Festival, will come to Bucharest together with the film protagonist, Liviu Canțer, aka “Licu”. They will be attending the documentary screenings on March, 23 and 25, at the Cinema Eforie.
     Cristina Haneș, the director of the documentary Antonio și Catarina – awarded the Pardino D`Oro (Best International Short Documentary) – will be in Bucharest from March, 17, until 20. Cristina is currently developing her first feature, a Romania-India co-production.
     A special guest of this year`s edition is the protagonist of the documentary A Cambodian Story – the Venerable Luon Sovath – an activist Buddhist monk from Cambodia, who continues to fight for the rights of his peers, in spite of all the threats he constantly received. He comes to Bucharest together with the film director, Chris Kelly. This documentary represents his feature-length debut and he has worked on it for 9 years.
