The Laboratory is set up in partnership with Scena9, together with the Town Hall of Arad Municipality and the Municipal Culture Centre of Arad, within the fARAD Documentary Film Festival, to take place in Arad between 6-9 October, 2016.
The projects selected and the participants to the first edition of fARAD Laboratory are
Fereastra lui Mircea Eliade/Mircea Eliade's Window (
Andrei Răuțu and Flavia Barabas),
Folk! (Gabriela Forfotă and Carmen Tofeni),
La Belle Époque (Daria Nistor and Marius Mihalcea) and
Portret de familie cu bunică/Family Portrait with Grandmother (Andra Tarara and Maria Salomia). The eight young filmmakers will attend between 6-9 October in Arad a creative laboratory unique in Romania, destined to documentary film professionals, and born at the suggestion of the Arad-based cinema community, and partially shaped after the similar laboratories from Sundance, Independent Filmmaker Project and IDFA. The Laboratory consists in a set of practical workshops on the relation between the technical component and the artistic one in the cinema creative documentary, and in intensive creative feedback sessions about the selected projects. The practical workshop will focus at this first edition on the documentary film sound as part of the creative vision, and will be delivered by
Dana Bunescu, the main edition of the New Romanian Wave, responsible, among others, of the editing and sound design for
Autobiografia lui Nicolae Ceauşescu/Nicolae Ceaușescu's Autobiography and
Things We Said Today (work in progress) — both by
Andrei Ujică.
Among the directors to offer creation support to the projects in development by the participants, there are Magnus Gertten (Sweden),
Alexandru Belc,
Titus Muntean,
Vlad Petri (Romania), together with the Festival's creative team represented by documentary film director Mona Nicoară, the Festival's artistic director, and film critic
Mihai Chirilov, chairman of the festival.
fARAD Laboratory is being launched within the third edition of fARAD Documentary Film Festival, which is to bring to Arad between 6-9 October some of the
most acclaimed for documentaries of the year, award-winners at the most prestigious film festivals worldwide.
