Paramount Pictures will do a remake after
Toni Erdmann (directed by Maren Ade), a Germany-Austria-Romania co-production, by Romanian co-producer
Ada Solomon.
According to Variety sources, Jack Nicholson and Kristen Wiig will be cast in the leading roles, but Paramount has not commented on this news.
Toni Erdmann has been nominated at the Oscar Awards for Best Foreign Film. The feature was premiered at the
Cannes 2016 Film Festival being designated
the best film of the year by the International Syndicate of Film Critics (FIPRESCI). At the European Film Academy Awards Gala of December 2016,
Toni Erdmann won the trophies for all
the five categories to which it had been nominated: Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay (Maren Ade), Best Actor (Peter Simonischek) and Best Actress (Sandra Hüller).
The Romanian-German co-production was shot almost entirely in Romania, the story following the relationship between eccentric Winifred and his daughter Ines, sent to work for a corporation in Bucharest. The cast of the German film includes Romanian actors
