A New Película Edition, from September 11 to 15


     The fourth edition of the festival Película – UN FESTIVAL CA O FIESTA! will take place in Bucharest, from September 11 to 15, 2019.
     For five days, watching the films screened at Elvire Popesco Cinema, Cervantes Institute, the Romanian Peasant Museum and other alternative spaces in Bucharest, the viewers will have the chance to discover the cultures of other countries, the differences and similarities between Romania and the Ibero-American area. The festival focuses on the culture of this area and harmoniously combines the film screenings with the dance performances, the food, the music, the exhibitions and with the stories of those that are in love with this world full of passion and humanity – for a unique experience.
     Every year, Película wants to celebrate the Ibero-American cinema and culture and laces the spotlight on one of the countries. This year, Brazil is the country In Focus.
     On Wednesday, September 11, one of the iconic Brazilian films, Central do Brasil, will open the fourth edition of the Película Festival. The film speaks about the emotional journey of a former teacher and of a 9 y.o.boy. The film received more than 30 awards in international festivals, it has two Oscar nominations, for Best Actress in a leading Role and for Best Foreign Film and in 1999 it received the Golden Globe for the Best Foreign Film.
     This year, the Película competition includes 5 films from Brazil, Peru, Mexico, Argentina and Chile: Benzinho/Loveling (2018, Brazil-Uruguay, directed by Gustavo Pizzi), Cancion sin nombre/Song Without a Name (2019, Peru, directed by Melina León), La camarista/The Chambermaid (2018, Mexico, directed by Lila Avilés), Rojo (2018, Argentina, Benjamin Naishtat), Tarde para morir joven/Too Late to Die Young (2018, Chile, directed by Dominga Sotomayor).
     Strong productions that focus on important topics: parents who have to accept detaching from their child and the natural growing up, parents who fight to get back their kidnapped child, social problems and the aspiration for a better life, well-kept secrets that - once revealed - bring different crimes, an intimate look on the life of an isolated community, living far away from the urban excesses in a time of change and trials.
     All the films selected for this year`s competition are productions with an important international journey, that received many awards and had great press reviews.
     The Película Festival is organized by FREEALIZE and the ARTICHITANA Cultural Association and it has the honorary support of some of the embassies of the Latin-American countries in Bucharest – Argentina, Brasil, Chile, Mexico and Peru. With the support of the French Embassy, the French Institute and the Cervantes Institute.
