The 15th edition of the Animest International Animation Film Festival (November 9-15, 2020, Bucharest) turns the summer vacation of the high school students from Romania and Republic of Moldova into a creative experience with the
”Animation Incubator”. The first school contest of this type will be a unique occasion for the students of the arts high schools to take the first steps towards the animation film world, discovering techniques and learning tricks of this field from established Romanian artists. The journey will start on Tuesday, June 9, with a first presentation of the project, made on the Zoom platform by
Mihai Mitrică, the festival director, alongside the film director
Paul Mureșan, the trainer of the intensive creation program.
The first meetings of the high school students with the ”Incubator” trainers will take place online, on Zoom and the participants will receive the access details from the coordinator-professors. Having experience in the animation film field is not necessary; the program represents a special occasion for the young designers and
illustrators to learn animation techniques. For two months they will be in touch with the mentor of this first edition, Paul Mureșan, who will guide them throughout the summer, offering them advice, feedback and solutions to develop their graphic abilities.
In November, for an entire month, 10 of the participants that were selected during the previous stage of the project will take part in a creative contest (creating a
storyboard for a possible animation film, based on a given screenplay). They will work under the guidance of the mentors
Matei Branea and
Laura Pop in a special
section of the Animest Festival. The name of the 10 finalists will be published on September 21 on the project website: https://www.incubatoruldeanimatie.ro/. The
winner of the final stage of the project will be chosen by a jury made of specialists in the field and will be awarded during the Animest 2020 Awards Gala. Throughout the entire festival, the viewers will be able to admire the finalist works during a dedicated exhibition.
