“Lemonade”, Screened at the Shanghai Film Festival 2019

     Lemonade, debutul în lungmetraj al regizoarei Ioana Uricaru`s feature debut will be screened at the Shanghai International Film Festival (June, 15 – 23, 2019), in the Spectrum World Debuts section.
     The film is inspired by an article in the press and it tells the story of a few tense days in the life of Mara, a nurse left from Romania, who is forced to confront the difference between the American dream and the reality. The film which, after the Berlin premiere, was described as a drama with thriller accents, caught the attention of many film distributors and so, the film arrived in France, Canada, China, Germany, Greece, countries from the former Yugoslavia, Israel, among others.   
     “The subject of the film, the story, the characters were settled some years ago. Initially, the main theme of the film was immigration. Then, while in real life the events alternated, the theme of harassment became more and more prominent – but not because we changed something (the film was already in post-production when the Weinstein scandal started), but because the attention of the public shifted and the social importance of the harassment theme increased”, the director Ioana Uricaru declared.
