Kent Jones, film critic, curator and director of the New York Film Festival accepted the invitation to make a selection of representative indie films for this year`s edition of the American Independent Film Festival and to present them in person to the Bucharest audiences.
“American Independent Cinema curated by Kent Jones” includes a selection of films from the past 50 years.
The Shooting (1967), directed by Monte Hellman is one of the iconic American westerns, starring Jack Nicholson and Millie Perkins, a selection of short films by Bruce Conner – a noted director known for his eccentric and rebellious work style, using found-footage. Kent Jones will introduce the screenings and entry will be free of charge, upon seats availability. The complete program, screening dates and seat reservations will soon be available on Eventbook.ro.

Kent Jones is a film critic, curator, film festival programmer and director. In 2013 he became the director of the New York Film Festival. He used to
work as an archivist for Martin Scorsese`s Cappa Productions company and as a programmer of the Lincoln Center Film Society in New York. he often writes for Film Comment and Cahiers cu Cinema. He directed more documentaries, among which
Hitchcock / Truffaut, which premiered at the 2015 edition of the Cannes Film Festival; the film reached many festivals (Telluride, Toronto or London BFI).
Kent Jones` latest film,
Diane, entered the selection of the Tribeca Film Festival and it will premiere right before his arrival in Bucharest.
Presented at the Cannes Film Festival in 1967,
The Shooting was made with a budget of 75,000 USD; it was produced by Roger Corman and Jack Nicholson who also stars in the film. Monte Hellman`s gem is a western set in the American desert and opens with Willet Gashade, a former bounty hunter who returns home to find out that his brother ran off after killing two people, by mistake. The film expands the
architecture of the geographical space and of the human nature, to ofer one of the most memorable American westerns.
The Shooting will be screened on May 1, 2018, starting with 18:00 at the Peasant Museum Cinema.
A Woman under the Influence, by John Cassavetes will be screened on May 2, 2018, from 17:00.
A legendary pioneer of the American avant-garde, the director Bruce Conner is best-known for his found-footage “assemblage” films and creator of the blueprint for the pup music video. A few samples of his work will be screened in Bucharest, as a series of three short films -
Crossroads (1976),
Report (1967) and
Looking for Mushrooms (1996). The Bruce Conner collection will be presented on May 3, 2018, from 18:30, at the Peasant Museum Cinema.
