Free access for poets at “Paterson”

Paterson, Jim Jarmusch`s latest feature film, takes a bow in front of the Romanian audience. They are invited to come watch the film in cinemas and enter by showing one volume of poetry at the entrance. On the day of its release, February, 16, at the Cinematheque, UNION venue, the audience will have the chance to meet a few poets such as Mircea Dinescu, Florin Iaru or Marius Chivu.
The cinemas that take part in the event are: UNION (February, 16, 19:00, February, 17, 19:00, February, 18, 19:00), Cinema Victoria – Cluj and Cinema Modern Suceava, since February, 16 and Cinema Elvire Popesco – starting with February, 21.
Paterson, one of the most beautiful films about poetry, renders the atmosphere of the “city of poets”, Paterson, New Jersey, as perceived by a bus driver. It`s the city where some writers come from: William Carlos Williams, a representative of the modernism and imagism in literature and author of the famous epic poem “Paterson”; another one is Allen Ginsberg, a central figure of the beat Generation. Allen Ginsberg` anthology, “Howl and other poems” was translated in Romanian by Petru Ilieșiu and Domnica Drumea. The latter confirmed her presence at the screening on Friday, from the UNION Cinematheque. The film also mentions Emily Dickinson`s poetry.
The William Carlos Williams-like poems from the film were written especially for this film by Ron Padgett, one of Jim Jarmusch`s favorite poets. Except for one, which belongs to the director himself.
Paterson was nominated for the Palme D`Or at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, where it received a unique palm Dog award.
On Valentine`s Day, February, 14, Paterson launched another special challenge: the couples that bring a poetry book at the preview of the film at the UNION Cinematheque, at 7:00, they pay only one ticket.
Starting with February, 16, the film can be seen in Bucharesti (Cinemateca Union, Cinema Muzeul Țăranului, Cinema Europa), Cluj (Cinema Victoria and Cinema Florin Piersic), Suceava - Cinema Modern, Târgu Jiu - Cinema Sergiu Nicolaescu.
From February, 17, the film can be seen at the Cinema Dacia from Piatra Neamț and since February, 21, at the Elvire Popesco Cinema in Bucharest and Cinema Patria in Craiova.
The film is distributed in Romania by Voodoo Films.
